The Veggie Burger - A Survey

I have a confession to make. I love veggie burgers. A box of veggie burgers does not last very long in our freezer. There is a very long list of veggie burgers that I enjoy, but I have a definite favorite. With four patties to a box, these burgers last for no longer than four days in our fridge. To me, they always sound like a great idea for a meal, be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Although honestly, I would rarely last until dinner to have one of these, if they're in the house.

Yes, I eat them for breakfast. Today, I am having one for lunch (yes, its even good after being cooked and sitting in the car for 4 hours.

My most favorite veggie burger ever is:

Amy's TEXAS burger. It is the perfect blend of sweet and savory, made up of all ingredients that I can pronounce, and packs a good punch of protein too (12 g). It is just, delicious.

So with that, I'm wondering...what is your favorite veggie burger? Do you make your own instead? Do you (gasp) not like veggie burgers? Inquiring minds (mine) want to know!!

Have a great day people, I'm off to cook my veggie burger and get to work!

  1. I usually eat homemade burgers, and my favourites are mushroom burgers and oat/almond/mushroom burgers. The occasional time I buy a burger, my fave is probably Redwood's VegiDeli Quarter Pounder burgers. I still haven't been able to replicate a meaty-style vegan burger to my satisfaction.

  2. I've never seen those veggie burgers before. They sound great!

I haven't found a veggie burger that doesn't contain cheese since becoming dairy free. I might have to hunt for those ones!! :)

I'm sure they are easy to make too!

  3. I love to make my own and with five people in the family I would go broke buying the packaged ones, but to splurg we love Sunbugers (southwestern style is our fave).

  4. I love veggie burgers — all of 'em! Boca, the Morningstar Farms vegan patty, Amy's, Gardenburger, homemade...you name it. I think Amy's Texas burger is my fave too...I also like to take those Morningstar Farms riblets (those are vegan) and eat them on a bun like a McRib sandwich.

  7. My all-time fav. veggie burgers (thus far) are Organic Sunshine Burgers. I like all of their flavors. They are gluten-free and soy free (very important around here).

However, I'd like to start making our own veg burgers at home. So I'm on the lookout for recipes. =)

  9. I like the sun burgers and also wild wood tofu burgers. Both are a bit too expensive for me to eat with any regularity, though.

  14. Hey Gina! Thanks for your comment about clean eating. I always thought of it as a food philosophy too, but reading this article made me have an entirely different perspective on it. It was all these rules and guidelines, I felt like I was reading a diet plan. I think if you go into it as more of a "philosophy" rather than a "diet" it's easier and it's ok to "mess up" every once in a while.

Regarding the veggie burgers, Amy's are my favorite! I also really like Morning Star black bean. Soooo delicious.

  16. I LOVE Amy's bean burritos but never tried her burgers!

I am going through a MorningStar breakfast patty on toast w/ veggie cheese phase and vegenaise spread - breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack!

    Mmm, yummy!

  17. I love veggie burgers! The Amy's Bistro burger is pretty good too. We used to buy Trader Joe's veggie burgers, but for some reason we haven't bought those in a long time. They are really good and thicker than your average veggie burger, or at least they used to be a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure I've ever had an Amy's Texas burger, but they do have it at our grocery store. I'm going to have to try it!

  18. I tend to make my own, usually some variation of chickpea cutlets, and keep them in the freezer for later use. But the last few weeks I was home alone and I rediscovered my love of storebought burgers. There are a few brands over here, which I'm still exploring a little.

  19. I also like veggie burgers! I have lots of favorites and I have like a mount of it in the ref. Eating it makes me feel that I am still eating the meat that I have been missing.

  21. I love pretty much any kind of veggie burger (I dump so much other crap on top that even if the burger was bad, I wouldn't know). I've also gotten into meatless chicken breast lately.
My personal struggle is this, though: does this mean I crave meat so much that I'm attracted to 'fake meat'?

  22. I do love veggie burgers, but I normally make my own and freeze them. I too have the problem of eating them every day for every meal when they are in the freezer!

  23. Amy's fan over here! My favorite burger however is their Bistro version. I don't know, something about it is just perfect for my palate... It's a shame they're usually the hardest to find around here.

Alternately, the Falafel Sunshine Burgers are really good too, but a very different "burger" experience altogether.
